None of this will change McConnell's trajectory, or will. But Mitt Romney can in fact lead a rebellion against Mitch McConnell now, by quietly going to other GOP Senators who are not up for re-election this year, but who see that the GOP is going to lose the Senate and that the GOP will be the minority party in 2021 et seq. Romney can approach these Senators and propose that if they will agree to stiff McConnell on a Supreme Court nomination, as minority leader Romney will take care of them handsomely.

And in fact if I could talk to Mitt Romney I would propose that.
